Hacking IPC1000 camera

So I got a couple Ip cameras for free, they suck by current standards, but you got the free part, right?

These are apparently made by Xanboo, mine are motorola branded....this changes the default passwords. guess what, I can't find them anywhere on the net. However, after a little hacking:

User: admin
pass: motorola

Viewer only:

User: viewer
pass: motorola

Default is also to use DHCP, so no telling where it in when you plug it in, great....

http://admin:motorola@192.168.1.xxx/img/video.asf is the default MPEG 4 stream
http://admin:motorola@192.168.1.xxx/img/mjpeg.cgi is apparently a motion JPEG stream

Sotimes when hacking on it, it tries to redirect you to:wvc54g_39b.sercomm.com....Sercomm is an embedded server vendor
and apparently the OEM for Motorola.

CentOS 5.4 Installing Nagios and Lilac

Here's a dirty script I wrote to install nagios and Lilac on a clean CentOS 5.4 install. This script doesn't care about anyone other than itself (it'll change the mysql password for instance) so may not be entirely perfect for your needs.

It does get PHP 5.2 installed and all of Lilacs annoying deps.

Note at the end there are some edits to do to PHP.ini and sudoers:

#Edit Files, I guess I could do this with sed, but bah.

#Edit /etc/php.ini
#magic_quotes_gpc = Off
#memory_limit = 64M

#Restart httpd fo the php.ini edits take effect
#service httpd restart

#edit /etc/sudoers
#comment out Defaults requiretty
#add the folowing at the end of the file (no pound signs)
#apache ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/nmap
#apache ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios
#apache ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /etc/init.d/nagios restart
#apache ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /etc/init.d/nagios reload

#go to http://<yourserver>/nagios/lilac/install.php and resolve any dependencies
#there should not be any

I guess I could do that with sed or something as stated, if you implement it, send me a copy and I'll add it here. This is not graceful but does a lot of grunt work easily.

Code:

#!/bin/sh

#As found on socalcrew.com, this installs Nagios and Lilac on a clean
#CentOS 5.4 install. This is from gleened sources in the comments below.

#doesn't care how version changes might affect the rest of your system,

Replacing microphone on the Kenwood DNX8120

Options for replacing the crappy microphone on the Kenwood DNX8120
(and probably many, many others.)

You know, when you shell out $1600 on a top of the line, all conquering head unit, you’ve also bought the right to complain about every little thing that you don’t love about it.

There are many things that annoy me about it or I’d do differently, like the slow boot up time or having to acknowledge the GPS warning screen EVERY SINGLE TIME. There should also be an option to INHIBIT GPS from recording top speed.  I actually have a list of about 50 things I’d do differently.

Anyway, one thing that’s unforgivable is the complete POS Mic they include. So I set out on a search to find replacements:

Sennheiser ME2 Omnidirectional is known to work.
Sennheiser ME4 Cartioid is a better option.

Shure MX184 Super Cartioid should be a good option but expensive.

Audio-Technica ATR35S Omni
Audio-Technica AT831c – less power module; includes clothing clip and windscreen only; 10' (3 m) cable, unterminated Probably Ideal, just add plug, but I haven’t tried it.

Beyerdynamic MCE 494 - Portable Cardioid Electret
Probably the best bet, especially if you don’t want to solder.
Just add extension cord (Stereo 3.5mm, Shielded ideally to avoid RF issues.)
Cardioid pattern and low end roll off help buck background and road noise.
No Soldering! Closer is better and it’s directional, I’m going to try A-Pillar.
www.beyerdynamic.de/download.php?filename=mce494_data_en.pdf

For those needing to solder:
Solder the positive lead to tip and negative to ring and shield.

So I bought a house (woot)

It had a little mold (booo)

The inspector stated it was 3 or 4 days at $1K/day to clean it up....this was minor mold in expected areas.... near bathroom shower and a leak under the kitchen sink, some condensation near the HVAC....this wasn't a big deal...

So I go online....figuing bleach is the way to kill this stuff. Ech, long story, guess not....I guess it tends to react atthe surface only and not get deep enough to deal with the stuff so it reappears.

Enter Concrobium...which seemed to be the solution. fine, great, I bought a gallon and treated the problem and we'll see if it works. Reading the label, it's .95% Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash) and "Inert Ingredients"....WTF, why's it $35 bucks?

So I read up....found a post by a guy claiming to be from the company that said it's this, water and "2 other ingredients"...and references a non-organic water soluable polymer. In Canada, they claim the active ingredient is simply trisodiumphospate (TSP).

So I pull the patent http://www.wikipatents.com/ca/2504014.html and with putting the puzzle pieces together, here's a generic, make it yourself version:

1% or so Sodium Carbonate
.5% sodium bicarbonate (or sodium biphosphate)
.5% Trisodium Phosphate
Balance is water.

So, to a gallon of warm water (to help disolve the salts):

2 1/2 tablespoons Sodium Carbonate
4 teaspoons Sodium Bicarbonate
4 teaspoons TSP

Sodium Carbonate is available as pool supply (ph Up or Increaser) or photography places. I saw it fot $15 for 5 pounds...which would make a ton of your knockoff mold killer.

Sodium Bicarbonate is BAKING SODA! (Also as pool supply as Alk-UP or 'Alkalinity Increaser') Maybe a buck?
TSP is $2.50 a pound.

I don't claim this is the formula, just ballparking it....and all you really need is the Sodium Carbonate to do the job.

The polymer is probably 2% of something like Aqualon cellulose gum in food grade, but not required to make this work. Guess it helps keep foaming down and the salts suspended. Organic polymers like guar or triagacanth would probably work fine to.
http://www.herc.com/aqualon/ Spraying some Concrobium on glass and letting it dry, yep, looks like a polymer in there, lol....

Helpful post:
http://www.askmoxie.org/2008/05/product-review.html

So, for the cost of 1/2 gallon of the commercial product you can make enough to do the whole block.

At your own risk, don't try this at home, etc. I coould be dead wrong. :)

Originally, this site was made in support of the Videos for the socalcrew bashers. (videos.socalcrew.com)
It also supports the store ([url=store.socalcrew.com]store.socalcrew.com[/url])

More recently, it's been more for friends and customers to communicate with me with little public posting.

I'm working on projects I will outline here and maybe breath a little life into the thing.
